Psychologist Dr. Maja Grünzner
Integrative Systemic Therapy
in English & German
I offer a supportive and confidential space for you to gain clarity in relationships and life transitions, understand recurring emotional and relational patterns, and reconnect with your own needs, so you can move forward with greater self-trust and confidence.
My work includes therapy and counseling for individuals, couples, families, and groups. I specialize in relational and personal themes such as emotional dependency, people-pleasing patterns, expat life and international transitions, as well as sexuality.
About
Having lived and worked across the UK, Norway, Austria, Germany and Portugal, I am familiar with the psychological challenges of international and transitional lives, including shifts in identity, belonging, and relationships. I aim to offer a calm, non-judgemental space where complexity can be explored with honesty, care, and clarity.
I work with individuals, couples, and families who are going through a life transition or planning to do so. Many of the people I work with are thoughtful, capable, and used to adapting to others or to demanding environments, yet feel exhausted, uncertain in relationships, or disconnected from their own needs.
Rather than offering quick fixes, my work focuses on understanding how these patterns developed and what continues to maintain them. I don’t view them as problems to be fixed, but as meaningful responses shaped by personal history, relationships, and context. Creating space to reflect on this often opens the door to sustainable change.
Qualifications
Experience
My professional background spans from psychological counseling in private practice, academic research, teaching and training. Since 2024, I have been working in private practice, offering integrative psychological counseling, alongside teaching psychology and coaching methods, where I support the training of future psychological counsellors, systemic coaches, mediators, and supervisors. Previously, I worked in international, interdisciplinary research projects focused on behavior change and human–environment interactions. Earlier in my career, I gained experience in fitness coaching, supervised work in outplacement consulting as well as in a psychosomatic clinic, shaping an integrative and practice-informed perspective.

Approach
My approach is integrative, relational, and collaborative. In sessions, we take time to look together at what is currently coming up for you, whether in thoughts, emotions, relationships, or everyday life.
Together, we explore patterns that may be showing up and work toward a better understanding of what is being experienced. Often this involves putting words to feelings or thoughts that have been hard to grasp so far. We also look at how stress, strong emotions, or challenging situations are being handled. When helpful, I invite reflection between sessions through focused questions or small, practical exercises.
From my systemic perspective, change does not want to be forced. Instead, change is allowed to emerge through self-compassion, and clarity about needs, at a pace that feels manageable, sustainable, and right for you.
